Hawaii! Just saying it makes you think of that slack-string
guitar music (a la Don Ho), surf, hula dancers and leis. And
guess what, it's all true! And you can learn to hula yourself
(it's not as easy as it looks, but it's great exercise) you can
learn to braid a lei for yourself, you can take a lesson in the
language of Hawaii (rule number one: pronounce every letter in
every word.)
We spent a week at Kihei Bay on the island of Maui and a week at
Kapaa Shores on Kauai. On Maui, we went for a dinner cruise on
the bay and watched the sun set behind the mountains. We took a
tour of the island and sampled some local wine.

We did pass on riding a bike down the slopes of an extinct
volcano and, no you don't have to bike up the mountain.
On Kauai, we went to a luau (sort of a Hawaiian barbecue, but
with lavish entertainment*), saw Bali-Hi from South Pacific, or
at least the island that was used in the movie, and visited a
guava plantation. You don't know good a fruit can be until
you've eaten a guava just picked from the tree!
We loved every minute of it, thank you so much for sending us
there.
* That's where the photo was taken.
